Completing Application Forms

The first step in applying for a job is filling out the employer’s application form.

When filling out application forms, always make sure you have all necessary information. Be sure to review all of your employment history if you are not applying for your first job. This is important because your future employer will need access this information to see if you are a reliable employee. When applying in person, dress in business casual attire when going to take or drop off an application. This is because you may end up speaking to the manager of the job. When filling out the application, make sure you follow all of the directions so you fill out all of the necessary information.

Before you submit your application, you should review it several times. You need to make sure you have all necessary information and that everything is filled out completely and correctly. Your application should include the following your personal information such as name, address, city, state, zip code, phone number and other contact information. Your eligibility to work in the U.S., felony convictions if applicable, and working papers if you are under the age of 18. Education information such as schools/colleges attended, majors, degrees and diplomas, and graduation dates.

Job information such as the title of the job you are applying for, hours and dates of availability, and when you can start work. Employment History Information such as names, addresses, phone numbers of previous employer's, supervisor’s name, dates of employment, salary, and reason for leaving. You will also need to provide references. You are usually required at least three references including their contact information.

The next step is to create your resume because it's something that most employers want to see before hiring someone.
